“I feel that Maltese people understand us more. When I speak to them about Palestine I feel like I’m talking to people who really understand suffering.”
Malta and Palestine share a close history. Having both been occupied by other nations, the two countries know the value of independence and sovereignty.
This solidarity takes different forms. Malta’s foreign ministers – from Guido de Marco to George Vella – have a history of promoting Palestinian solidarity. On a popular level, shared cultural norms and values help bring together the Maltese and Palestinian communities.
Speaking with three Palestinians and a Maltese person who spent years working in the Gaza strip, “Malta u l-Palestina” explores this history of solidarity and the wider importance of international solidarity to the Palestinian cause.

“Inħoss li l-poplu Malti, iċ-ċittadini Maltin, iktar jifhmuna. Meta nitkellem dwar il-Palestina, inħoss li qed nitkellem ma’ nies li vera jifhmu t-tbatija tagħna.”
Malta u l-Palestina għandhom storja simili. It-tnejn li huma kienu maħkuma min-nazzjonijiet u popli oħra. Iż-żewġ pajjiżi jifhmu l-valur tal-indipendenza u s-sovranità.
Is-solidarjetà tieħu forom differenti. Il-Ministri għall-Affarijiet Barranin Maltin, minn Guido de Marco sa George Vella dejjem ħadmu biex jippromwovu s-solidarjetà mal-poplu Palestinjan. Fuq livell popolari, normi u valuri komuni, jgħinu lill-komunitajiet Maltin u Palestinjani biex jersqu aktar qrib xulxin.
“Malta u l-Palestina” tkellem ma’ tliet Palestinjani u persuna Maltija li għamlu snin jaħdmu fl-istrixxa ta’ Gaza u magħhom jesplora l-istorja tas-solidarjetà u anke l-importanza tas-solidarjetà internazzjonali għall-kawża Palestinjana.
