Dinjità fil-Ħabs // Vigil for a Humane Prison

Wara li l-Kulunell Alexander Dalli issospenda lilu nnifsu, nhar is-Sibt 13 ta’ Novembru se niltaqgħu biex niftakru f’dawk kollha li mietu ġewwa l-ħabs minħabba sistema ta’ abbuż fil-Faċilità Korrettiva ta’ Kordin.

Mietu erbatax-il persuna u Malta għandha l-ogħla rata ta suwiċidju fil-ħabs fl-UE. Irridu nuru solidarjetà ma dawn il-priġunieri filwaqt li nesiġu li d-direttur il-ġdid tal-ħabs joħloq ambjent umanitarju u sigur għal dawk li huma maqfulin il-ħabs għax id-dixxiplina m’għandhiex twassal għall-mewt.

Nistennew ukoll li l-awtoritajiet responsabbli, inkluż il-Ministru tal-Intern, Byron Camilleri, jieħdu responsabbiltà politika għal dawn l-imwiet bla sens. Minkejja s-sospensjonijiet, ħadd u xejn ma jista’ jgħaqqad lill-familji ta’ dawk li mietu mal-maħbubin tagħhom.

Jekk jogħġobkom ġibu magħkom xemgħat u fjuri. Se niltaqgħu quddiem il-Ħabs ta’ Kordin fil-5.00 p.m.

Dinjità fil-ħabs | Vigil for a humane prison

Following the suspension of Colonel Alexander Dalli, on Saturday, 13th November we are meeting to mourn all those who have died in prison because of a system of abuse at the Corradino Correctional Facility.

Fourteen people have died and Malta has the EU’s highest suicide rate in prison. We want to show solidarity with these prisoners and demand that the new prison director creates a safe, humane environment for those who are incarcerated because discipline does not have to lead to death.

We also expect the responsible authorities, including Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri, to take political responsibility for these senseless deaths. No matter who is suspended, nothing can be done to reunite families with their loved ones.

Please bring candles and flowers. We will meet in front of Corradino Correctional Facility at 5.00 p.m.
