Local Council, organisations and residents plan to appeal Balluta private ferry decision

The St. Julian’s Local Council, five organisations and over thirty residents plan to appeal the scandalous Planning Commission decision to issue a permit for Fortina’s private jetty, thus allowing its catamaran to operate in Balluta Bay. Allowing a private ferry service in a popular bathing spot sets an extremely dangerous precedent since now all bays in Malta are under threat from transformation into berthing places for private ferries.

We are asking for public support to crowdfund the sum of €3,000 in order to cover the appeal costs as well as to undertake further legal action against the private ferry in Balluta Bay. Donations are being accepted via bank transfer or Revolut:

Fortina’s application was approved after the Planning Commission had indicated it would refuse it. However, the final decision on the application was put off for a long period of time, to then be approved by the same Commission which had indicated its refusal in a surreal sitting where the Commission members actively took the side of the applicant. Residents, the Local Council and organisations have clearly shown that Fortina’s private catamaran in Balluta runs counter to numerous planning policies and will have a deleterious impact on bathers and residents. They further argued that the application for a private jetty, forming part of a much larger network, was being filed in a piecemeal manner and that, contrary to what is being claimed, a private ferry for tourists does not constitute an alternative means of transport.

Kunsill Lokali, organizzazzjonijiet u residenti jippjanaw li jappellaw id-deċiżjoni tal-katamaran fil-Balluta

Il-Kunsill Lokali ta’ San Ġiljan, ħames organizzazzjonijet u iktar minn 30 resident qed jippjanaw li jappellaw id-deċiżjoni skandaluża tal-Kummissjoni tal-Ippjanar biex jinħareġ il-permess għal moll privat għall-Fortina, biex b’hekk tkun tista’ topera l-katamaran tagħha fil-bajja tal-Balluta. Li tħalli servizz privat tal-katamaran jopera f’bajja popolari għall-għawm huwa preċedent perikoluż immens għaliex issa l-bajjiet kollha ta’ Malta huma mhedda li jkunu mibdula f’postijiet tal-irmiġġ għad-dgħajjes privati.

Qegħdin nitolbu l-appoġġ tal-pubbliku biex niġbru s-somma ta’ €3,000 biex inkopru l-ispejjeż tal-appell kif ukoll biex nieħdu iktar azzjonijiet legali kontra l-katamaran privat fil-bajja tal-Balluta.

Qed jiġu aċċettati donazzjonijiet permezz ta’ trasferimenti bankarji jew Revolut:

L-applikazzjoni tal-Fortina ġiet approvata wara li l-Kummissjoni tal-Ippjanar kienet indikat li se tirrifjutaha. Madanakollu, id-deċiżjoni finali ġiet posposta għal żmien twil, biex imbagħad ġiet approvata mill-istess Kummissjoni li kienet indikat li se tirrifjuta l-permess waqt seduta surreali fejn il-membri tal-Kummissjoni kollha ddefendew lill-applikant bi ħġarhom. Ir-residenti, il-Kunsill Lokali u l-organizzazzjonijiet urew biċ-ċar li l-katamaran privat fil-Balluta jmur kontra diversi policies tal-ippjanar u li se jkollu effett negattiv fuq l-għawwiema u r-residenti. Huma argumentaw ukoll li l-applikazzjoni għal moll privat, li jifforma parti minn netwerk ikbar, ġiet

ippreżentata biċċa biċċa u li, għall-kuntrarju ta’ dak li qiegħed jingħad, katamaran privat għat-turisti mhuwiex mezz alternattiv ta’ trasport.
