Yorgen Fenech Arrest – Schembri and Mizzi should shoulder political responsibility and immediately disappear from the political scene

In view of today’s arrest of Tumas Group’s CEO Yorgen Fenech, Moviment Graffitti reiterates its stance that Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi should immediately resign and disappear from the political scene, something that is long overdue. The arrest of Yorgen Fenech in connection with Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder further makes the position of these two political figures totally untenable.

The scandal surrounding Yorgen Fenech prior to today’s arrest directly involves the privatisation of energy in Malta and the opening of offshore accounts by Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi.  17 Black, whose owner was revealed to be Yorgen Fenech, was a company cited in the Panama Papers as one transferring funds in these two offshore accounts. Regardless of, and before ascertaining, any eventual criminal responsibility by everyone implicated, it is blatantly obvious that a Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff and a Minister cannot remain in their positions while allegedly being connected not only to a corruption scandal, but now also to a businessman implicated in murder.

Should Mizzi and Schembri yet again decide not to resign, public anger would be entirely justified and everyone should be asking about Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi’s stranglehold on Muscat. Why are they so indispensable? Why is the Prime Minister once again ready to face pressure from all quarters, including from pockets of the Labour Party, in order to protect these two individuals whose credit has run out long, long ago?

L-arrest ta’ Yorgen Fenech – Schembri u Mizzi għandhom jerfgħu r-responsabbiltà politika u jisparixxu immedjatament mix-xena politika

Fid-dawl tal-arrest li sar illum tas-CEO ta’ Tumas Group Yorgen Fenech, il-Moviment Graffitti jkompli jisħaq u jtenni l-pożizzjoni tiegħu li Keith Schembri u Konrad Mizzi għandhom jirriżenjaw u jisparixxu mix-xena politika immedjatament, xi ħaġa li jmissha ilha li saret żmien twil ilu. L-arrest ta’ Yorgen Fenech f’rabta mal-qtil ta’ Daphne Caruana Galizia jkompli juri li l-karigi ta’ dawn iż-żewġ figuri politiċi assolutament m’għadhomx tenibbli.

L-iskandlu li hu involut fih Yorgen Fenech qabel ma llum ġie arrestat jinvolvi b’mod dirett il-privatizzazzjoni tal-enerġija f’Malta u l-ftuħ ta’ kontijiet offshore minn Keith Schembri u Konrad Mizzi. 17 Black, li kien ġie żvelat li s-sid tagħha mhuwa ħadd għajr Yorgen Fenech, kienet kumpanija li ġiet imsemmija fil-Panama Papers bħala kumpanija li kienet se tittrasferixxi fondi f’dawn iż-żewġ kontijiet offshore. Irrispettivament minn jekk, u qabel ma jiġi vverifikat li, dawk kollha li huma implikati huma effettivament ħatja fuq livell kriminali, ma jifdal l-ebda dubju li Kap tal-Istaff tal-Prim Ministru u Ministru ma jistgħux jibqgħu jokkupaw il-karigi preżenti tagħhom waqt li fl-istess ħin huma allegatament konnessi mhux biss ma’ skandlu li jinvolvi l-korruzzjoni, iżda issa wkoll ma’ negozjant li qed jiġi implikat fi qtil.

Jekk Mizzi u Schembri jerġgħu għal darb’oħra jirrifjutaw li jirriżenjaw, ir-rabja tal-poplu tkun waħda kompletament ġustifikata u kulħadd għandu jistaqsi x’hemm wara s-saħħa li Keith Schembri u Konrad Mizzi għandhom fuq Muscat. Għalfejn huma daqshekk indispensabbli? Għalfejn il-Prim Ministru huwa għal darb’oħra lest li jaffaċċja l-pressjoni minn kull direzzjoni, inkluż minn nies fil-Partit Laburista stess, sabiex jipproteġi lil dawn iż-żewġ individwi li l-pożizzjoni tagħhom ilha żmien twil li tilfet kull farka ta’ kredibbiltà?
